Step-by-step plan

1. Perform a calm, efficient inspection using minimal smoke.
2. Observe the brood nest to confirm healthy, multi-stage brood is still present.
3. Assess current store levels to ensure they remain adequate for late summer.
4. Check for any signs of space constraints as the colony grows.
5. Monitor for any new disease or pest signs on adult bees or brood frames.
6. Check for signs of wasp or robbing pressure as natural forage decreases.
7. Record all observations accurately.

Do not do

• Do not open the hive unnecessarily if the weather is poor.
• Do not leave brood frames exposed to direct sun or cool air for long periods.
• Do not feed the colony unless specifically authorized by a lead beekeeper.
• Do not attempt to manipulate the queen or perform complex swarm management without guidance.
