Step-by-step plan

1. Contact a Project Apis lead beekeeper before approaching the hive.
2. Observe entrance activity from a distance for signs of robbing or unusual bee behavior.
3. Perform a very brief inspection only with an experienced lead beekeeper present.
4. Document current frames, stores, and presence of any remaining brood.
5. Check specifically for signs of Deformed Wing Virus and verify if the queen is still viable.
6. Do not perform any independent colony manipulation.
7. Follow all instructions provided by the lead beekeeper regarding colony containment or action.

Do not do

• Do not open the hive without a Project Apis lead beekeeper present.
• Do not move frames, honey, or equipment to other apiaries to avoid spreading potential disease.
• Do not attempt to treat the hive until a lead beekeeper has evaluated the situation.
• Do not combine with other colonies.
• Do not leave the hive open for any longer than absolutely necessary.
